Dr. Callie Torres has left Grey-Sloan Memorial
This won’t be easy for everyone to swallow but after much speculation, it was only a matter of time before the news was announced – Dr. Callie Torres has left Grey’s Anatomy and all we can say is at least she exited on a positive note. On last night’s season finale, [spoiler alert] Callie regained custody of her daughter and made plans to be with her estranged girlfriend, Penny, in New York.
Many people are upset with the character's departure not just because of her fun nature and fiery interactions with other characters but also because she brought LGBT issues to the forefront of the show.
The creator of Grey’s Anatomy, Shonda Rhimes, wrote in a tweet: “Dr. Callie Torres came into our lives dancing it out in her underwear almost a decade ago, and I could not be happier or more proud of her journey. Sara Ramirez’s performance inspired me as well as millions of fans each week. We wish her the best on her well-deserved time off. I will miss Callie tremendously, but am excited for what the future holds for Sara. She will always have a home at Shondaland.”
Co-star Ellen Pompeo also said:

It will be hard for many to adjust to. Sara Ramirez’s character was one of the originals, introduced in season two, and she was a very much beloved and inspirational character for many.

To be honest, we’re all shedding tears here. After the departure of Dr. Yang and Dr. Shepherd, another heartbreak is just too much to handle!
