Could 'X-Men: Apocalypse' be Jennifer Lawrence’s last appearance as Mystique?
As X-Men: Apocalypse rolls into its first week of theatre showings, many have begun to speculate over Jennifer Lawrence’s announced departure. She has been a highlight in the most recent X-Men franchise, gracing our screens since 2011, so it would definitely be a shame to see her go.
She didn’t exactly elaborate on her departure when she told MTV that she would be parting ways with the franchise but we can take our guesses.
We’re all very aware that superhero movies tend to have a stigma attached to them–they’re usually lucrative but lack in depth which ultimately strips actors and actresses of the opportunity to win a Golden Globes and Oscars. For Lawrence, it could be the lack of creativity or passionate storytelling that she’s missing in her career. She isn’t exactly struggling to get other film roles so maybe she’s simply not interested in being confined to being seen as a superhero regarding career development and opportunities.
Alternatively, the length of time it takes to film and complete these big, blockbuster movies takes a lot of time, which can not only be draining but also take time away from other interesting projects. Lawrence pointed this out when she said to EW: “I love the fans and I love the character. But then you realize how important your year is, like how important three months out of your year is. I don’t know. I shouldn’t be that honest.”
The actress has also openly spoken about how much she dislikes the blue make-up that she has to put on, but it seems more like a joke than an actual reason for not wanting to return to X-Men.
On top of that, Lawrence has even suggested to EW that her and her co-stars, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, all agreed that if one of them decides not do any films, none of them would continue. If this is true, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
