Comic book adaptation ‘Preacher’ is a big hit with viewers

Drenched in a southern drawl and an equally southern backdrop, Preacher was a thrilling mix between the TV show Supernatural and the hardcore action sequences typically found in Quintin Tarantino films. The supernatural happenings, religious undertone and gory violence made the first episode of Preacher as exciting as hoped.
If like me, you haven’t read the comics, you’ll probably find that the whole episode was a bit ambiguous. The characters have their mysteries–they were introduced well but not too much information was revealed. [Spoiler alert] We know the main character, Jesse Custer, has some personal issues and flashbacks of his dad dying but we don’t know the circumstances. He seems to have some history with his badass ex-girlfriend, Tulip, who is also an assassin. Then there’s the Irish vampire called Cassidy who has befriended Jesse–where does he fit into it all?
[Spoiler alert] We’re also introduced to two suspicious looking men who seem to follow trouble around wherever it goes. They appear to be hunting something, looking for it by tracing back steps and it happens to lead them to Jesse at the end of the episode.
Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who worked together on supernatural-comedy This is the End and comic book adaptation The Green Hornet, did a great job of producing the show. While it might not have ticked all the boxes for fans of the comics in terms of characterisation, setting, background and story, to us newbies the first episode injected humour, mystery and intrigue from the get-go.
There was a lot to take in during the episode especially with us being taken to different countries around the world and getting snippets of strange things that were happening. Despite the episode jumping from place to place, most people seemed to love it, especially on Twitter:

Even Trekkie Wil Wheaton was impressed:

Preacher will continue this upcoming Sunday on 29 May. We can't wait!
