Troy Ave arrested after shooting at T.I. concert leaves one dead
TMZ have released a surveillance video allegedly showing New York rapper Troy Ave aiming and firing a gun backstage at the T.I. concert at Irving Plaza on Wednesday night.
While reports surfaced at the time that Troy Ave had been grazed in the leg by a bullet, it’s now being reported that he accidentally shot himself in the process of opening fire.
The rapper, who was scheduled to perform as an opening act for T.I., was apparently feuding with rapper Maino who had just left the stage. Maino denies any type of hostility between the two and took to Instagram yesterday to deny any involvement in the incident:
Ronald Mcphatter, the man that died from a gunshot wound to the stomach on the night, was apparently a good friend of Troy Ave from junior high. This makes it unclear whether he meant to shoot the victim or not. Equally, if he was the shooter, it’s unclear how he managed to graze himself in the leg.
People are starting to put forward their own theories about what happened on the night. One user on Instagram (@theoriginaldino_) said: “He didn’t shoot into the crowd of fans he shot at the crowd of dudes who shot him ,shot his girlfriend and killed his right hand man. 5 shots were fired, he fired 1 of them against of a group of assassins and I’m pretty sure he hit one of them. He did not shoot his friend or his girl.”
Another user (@_mr.sixteen) said: “At the end, there were innocent people clueless what was going on, Troy shot in a crowd filled with people, some who came to watch him perform, people from his city, I f-ck with Troy but he did a real dumb move. Sad.”
Troy Ave has now reportedly been charged with reckless endangerment, illegal weapons possession, and criminal use of a firearm. Before he can be charged with murder, the NYPD need to investigate further and await the results of ballistics tests.
Regardless of the outcome, it’s a very sad situation. Shooting up a club where people are enjoying themselves is reckless and selfish.
